Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

A nice image which unusually shows all the shops by Station approach as well as the church.

Hadn't noticed/realised before that the new St Pauls wasn't built on the same spot as the razed one - moved from corner of Burgoyne to corner of Cavendish. From google streetview:

I think the postbox possibly has moved slightly too, but that may just be the perspective.

And on Thursday next, 13/7, after 45 years No.7 will have another change of ownership and, sadly, probably a change of use.  I'll miss Ajit but not, perhaps, Nirmal's dog.

Great to see 2016's Wightman escape 1905's Wightman traffic madness.

I hadn't realised they'd sold up. Do you know who's bought the place?

No Hugh. It was 'on-again-off-again' over the past year so I didn't probe Ajit, though he made some mention of buyer waiting for planning permission for a studio flat - possibly towards the back. Whether that leaves scope for retail or something else, I really don't know.

Now that you mention it, Hugh, I see from Planning that a Mr Chris Jaehme from East London has prior approval for change of use from A1 (retail) to C3 (dwelling house).

Just up the road from.where I used to live, and notice the Royal Mail pillar box is still there.. I remember in the 1960's when I had my scooter, taking it over the Harringay West bridge I used put it in first gear and walk it over. So I didn't have to struggle pushing it that would be in 1962 I used work in Crouch End at Holdens Briar pipe factory one of my many jobs. Ah those were the days 😊

Reginald, can you tell me any more about the briar pipe factory? I can't find any record of it.

Hi Hugh yes Holden's was at the back of the shops in a yard with six lock up garages. The factory was actually on top of those garages the workers used enter the work area from a ladder fixed to the wall that led to a trap door in the ceiling. The actual  yard access was made from a covered opening in between the shops on Park Road on the left from the Clock Tower. There was pedestrian access from the road opposite the Clock Tower behind the shops. I did notice  on Google Earth there was some alterations going on when I last looked a while back, so it those garages may not now exist. I hope this has been some help, if there is anything else I can help you with I will be with please let me know regards Reg P.S I worked there in 1962/3
