Comment by Richard Woods on February 16, 2024 at 13:28: Only just clicked but we never ever called it 'Ducketts Common' in those days. The Ritz was always Turnpike Lane. To us living next to it the common was exactly that and never an area; even the West Green Pleasance (Plasaunce in those days) and the area was always called West Green Road.

By the way Hugh - this might make an interesting sideline sometime - "We know where you mean but what did you call it?"

Comment by Alan Blunden on May 30, 2024 at 18:57: I remember queueing in the rain, waiting for the commissionaire to appear and let you in. There were signs showing the prices. (1s&6d and 1s&9d) Sometimes, if we couldn't get into the Ritz, we went up to the Regal in Frobisher Road. (A slight cut above the aforementioned Coliseum.)
