This corner has gone through two or more redevelopments since this photo. Numbers 184 to 164 High Road between Lordship Road and Buller Road went in the earlier redevelopment. The undertaker's at 741 Lordship Road survived a little longer but is now only a memory.

Having grown up in that area, from a very early age I always knew it as Spouters Corner. It's a pity we can't see the 'Garden Centre' called Willis hidden behind the bus, it had the most beautiful Magnolia tree in its entrance. You can just see the other side if it in this picture.

Thanks for the photo, John.
As you may know, the Willis name is deeply connected with that patch of Wood Green - in fact back to the late 18th century. The name came from Thomas Willis who married blacksmith Arthur Chesser's daughter Mary. IN the late 19th century, Willis established a seed merchant in, or next to, the blacksmith's premises.
Mary's brother Henry Daniel took on the forge after Arthur Chesser's death, but when he died in 1926 the former blacksmith's premises was taken on by the now widowed Mary and her son Arthur Frederick. It ran until the late Sixties at 182 High Road.
