Walley Barnes Shop, 363 Green Lanes, Harringay

Welsh Captain & Arsenal player Walley Barnes opened two sports shops in the 1950s. One was in Harringay and one in Chiswick. Later, in 1964, Barnes was one of the commentators on the very first episode of BBC’s Match of the Day.

This shop has been mentioned a few times on HoL over the years. I'm very grateful to former resident Barrie Maskell for turning up a copy of a photo of the shop for his evocative personal memoir published yesterday.
