My mother dragged us along every year...

I can remember standing outside the arena on a very cold night waiting to see the Queen.  Not sure whether this was 1956 or 1957.  She finally arrived in her car and drove past so quickly that I only saw a passing silhouette.

Often went to see the riders and their horses when they attended the Horse of the year Show.  Didnt go inside but you could see and talk to the riders around the side before the show.

Yes, Christine that's what we did. It was nice to walk around the back of the arena, see the magnificent horses being groomed and exercised, spot the famous riders of the day - Pat Smyth, Harry Llewellyn and 'Foxhunter'. My mum (of Irish decent) loved going to see the horses and could often get us in for free once the show had started.

After a little Go - ogling I think that the full information is, "Queen Elizabeth II Presents The Jorrocks Perpetual Challenge Cup For The Leading Show Jumper Of The Year To Mr Ted Williams Who Won For The Third Time In Succession. This Year He Won On 'Pegasus' an Eight Year Old Grey Gelding."
