After very recently finding a picture of a very different looking Turnpike Lane just to the west of this, I was surprised to see this picture turn up giving a better view of the houses on the corner on Turnpike and Hornsey Park Roads that were demolished in the 1970s as the Council made its first attempt to turn Wightman and Hornsey Park Roads into the Wood Green Bypass.
Photographer Alfred Braddock, who took this photo, lived at 120 Turnpike Lane in 1911-12. This was the middle of the three houses, two down from the junction with Hornsey Park Road and just a couple of dozen yards west of the junction with Wightman Road.

The two in the centre look like postmen, and that seems to be a post-box on the left, but what is the more ornate obelisk on the right?
Isn't it a lamp post? Just a little further to the right, towards the top of the picture, you can see a globe shape. I had assumed that's was a lamp form the lamp post.
You are right. It's a lamp post. I hadn't spotted the globes. I suppose it's a gas lamp that had to be lit by the lamplighter. When I lived in Harringay one of my school friends had gas globes in her Lausanne Road house, though they weren't in use. The detail is quite good. There seems to be a notice board in the garden of the house on the corner and possibly another one on the far right of the picture. One of the windows of the house is open and someone appears to be looking out at the action.
I remember my alternate doctor -Dr Barry Smith- was 2 or 3 doors down in this pic. By the time both my Dr's had retired and replaced by- Dr Photos- , those houses 'were under the road' making his surgery on the corner.
With regards to the display case, possibly, But, do remember that Braddock was only there for a year. So there's probably more chance of the photo not having been taken during his residence that it coinciding with his time there - unless of course he took it!. It's possible.
With regards to the houses that were demolished this overlay shows where the old HP and Wightman Roads ran.
This Braddock photo, showing an unrecognisable western Turnpike Lane in 1905, also just about shows the house that was to be his home six years later.
I lived on Clarendon Road ,those houses were demolished in the 1970's it destroyed a lot of family history that was there for over 150years
