After the trams finished, these shelters continued to be used for bus routes 217, 217A and 231 which used to run up Turnpike Lane to The Victoria Stakes pub. I can remember them being there a a child, so they probably went in the late 1960s when the Bus Station was rebuilt.The 41 bus always stayed aloof and continued to stop outside the shelters, where it still does today. A further shelter- which also doubles as an exit from the Tube- is out of site on the right, and happily still remains. Though not technically listed, it probably falls under the general listing of Turnpike Lane Station.

I've just looked at Street View Jeremy and I can't see any shelter that looks more than a few years old. Am I looking in the wrong place?

It's on the far left in that view-- just the corner visible.  Somewhere on Harringay Online you have a picture of the islands taken later- in 1950s- showing them in use as  bus stops- and you can see this shelter/entrance in the background. But I can't locate that picture right now...!

I guess you mean this picture. I think the covered entrance to the tube has alwats just been a covered entrance. With the stairs there, it can't have really ever served as a bus shelter, can it?

No probably not tho it offered some shelter in the rain! The other two shelters also had narrow staircases down to the tube I think, just visible in the second photo..

I remember these tram stops being used as bus stops in 1969/1970.  I used to stand waiting for the 41 bus to take me to Hornsey School for Girls and these were in use.  I believe there were five sets of stairs down to the tube: a set from each of the tram stops in the photo, a set next to the bus garage, a set outside The Wellington as it turns the corner into Wood Green High Road and the set next to the 41 bus stop.  And yes, as Jeremy suggested, the covered entrance to the tube at the 41 bus stop was used during heavy rainfall by people waiting for the bus - it got terrible congested and made it difficult to easily access the tube!  Directly to the left of your street view photo (can't add link???)  there was a blue police phone box (Dr Who time traveller).  Happy days.  Happy memories.

The daft thing is in a couple of years they will be ripping the road up to lay Tram tracks. I loved the six wheeled Trolly buses, boy the could accelerate! I think I must be getting old!
