What a photo! The 217 and the 231 along with a Ford Anglia at the traffic lights near The Wellington!

When were these removed? Don't think they were there when I came to London in 72

Straw Cat, to the best of my knowledge the islands were installed in 1932 and removed in 1968. It seems likely that a bus enthusiast took this snap to record them shortly before they were removed.

Yes Hugh, on 7th Sept 1968, the 217 and 231 were withdrawn between Turnpike Lane Stn and Alexandra Park and replaced by single-deck flat-fare buses on route W2, and the islands stopped being served. The W2 had to be caught in the 'new' roofed-over bus station.
