Not the Flying Scotsman (4472) - this is B1 class no. 61306, 'Mayflower'.
Well spotted, Simon. You are indeed correct. I put my carelessness down to the excitement of seeing steam!
I happened to be in Kentish Town much later last Sunday evening and heard a chugging noise I couldn’t immediately place; after a few moments, I realised it was the sound of a steam locomotive heading up the Overground line from Camden towards Willesden Junction. A check with the Steam Dreams website suggests it must have been Mayflower on its way back to base, after dropping its passengers at King’s Cross (the morning outward journey had started at Ealing). Alas, I wasn’t quick enough or near enough to the line to get a glimpse — even if only of a glowing firebox — but the sound was magnificent as it echoed off the surrounding buildings.
