Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
The Billiardrome, Salisbury Promenade, Harringay, 1934
After posting the c1930 photo of Woolworths at the the south end of the promenade, I was asked what was upstairs in the northern part of Salisbury Promenade.
It opened as The Billiardrome.
At ground floor level:
No . 2 was George Brewer, House furnisher
No. 3 was W. Engham & Sons, Clothiers
No. 4 was Essangee Wallpaper Co Ltd.
No 5 was The Silk Shop, Silk fabrics.

When we lived on grand parade, in the forties and fifties it was called Salon Bal, and we were forbidden to go up those stairs into that den of iniquity ( my father speaking )

Both the Billiardrome and Salon Bal were occupants of the building from when it first opened in 1926/7, before the shops were occupied. The Billiardrome was above 1-5 at the north end and the Salon Bal above 6-9 at the south end. You can read about what you missed in the Salon Bal here. That survived serving roughly the same purpose until at 2007/8. Was the sign shown above Woollies for the Salon still there in your day?
Remarlkably, the Billiard room still serves as a snooker hall.
