Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Owners of The Manor House Tavern, Green Lane, from 1875 until just before it was demolished to make way for the tube line. They raised nine children there. It had 300 seats for entertainment.

For some reason, the image you added, Sheila, got slightly mis-shaped. I've tidied it up a bit and added a second copy below. Incidentally, local records show your family taking over in 1890. I've just added quite a bit of detail about the pub's history to the Manor House article on Wikipedia. Was there any relationship between your family and Stephen Medcalf who apparently owned it from 1878 to 1890?

Sorry for long time in replying - we were away before Christmas and busy afterwards. Thank you for tidying up the photos. My grandmother Eleanor Kate Swinyard was born 28 July 1877 at 240 Seven Sisters Road - father James Swinyard Licensed Victualler. I assumed (never do that) that he was at The Manor House at that time but perhaps he was in another hostelry?? Any ideas? Yes see below!! They are living there in 1881 census. He joined the New Finsbury Park Lodge No 1695 in 1879 of SSR. Just read the letter received about his Lodge admission which states he was at the Clarence Tavern and remember that his son William Clarence Swinyard, born 3 July 1879 was named after the Pub. A little tidying up needed here. regards Sheila.
