The original frontage was really rather handsome before it was mangled by the failed Northern Heights project.

I agree. If you use the tag under the photo, you'll see a few photos of Station Place. But this is the first one where I noticed the gothic arches on the station frontage. I also saw the mock Tudor cinema frontage in the background which I hadn't seen before.

Indeed - I wonder whether that's still there under the plaster!

I hadn't thought to consider that. But I think you may have a point. Judging by the wood above the window, it looks like much of the mock-Tudor could still be there.

As a long-term dweller (since 1966) and lover of the area (grew up in Chelsea and interested in the contrast), I'd love to be able to view all the historic pictures (uncluttered by repro protection).
Can you/we/us all make a book? If so, maybe gather contributions (I photographed Haringey people).
A book could maybe include short narratives relating to Hornsey history eg the famous art school sit-in (1960s); before that, an election where communists stood as candidates (I have a relevant photo).
Anecdotes from dwellers relating specifically to the area. The book could perhaps have extra empty pages for owners to add their own comments, pictures, N8 memories... Vaughan (vaughan.melzer@gmail.com)

Hi Vaughan, I do understand your frustration with the watermarking. When I first started adding historical photos to this site I didn't used to mark them at all. I then found that the images were being copied and sold on ebay. So I started adding a watermark. I try to do it in such a way as not to obstruct the viewing experience but to render them unsaleable if copied.

It sounds like you have a fascinating collection of photos that should be shared.

As a member of the HHS Publications Committee, I never object to a book! Having published my own book in 2024, I also know what a lot of work it is: of course that is not to say it shouldn't be done.

The first thing is to arrive at a theme. Did you have something in mind?
