Are these still there? They featured often in a dodgy game on roller skates....

Long gone. I imagine they and the islands went shortly after trams were withdrawn.

I remember, as a kid of 5-10 being driven past an 'island' like that at Turnpike Lane and that as in the days when 'Routemasters' were still considered 'new', so at the earliest in 1962 and at the very latest 1967.  The shelter had Underground "Turnpike Lane" roundels attached. I always thought it was a bit 'odd'. My memory of Manor House at the same time was a very odd wide section of road in front of the LT offices where it looked as if there had had been 'something' in the middle that had been removed.

Oh no Hugh. They lasted well into the Routemaster age - I left the area in 1964 and they were still there then.
