Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

St Anns Road / Seven Sisters Road Junction, c1970

This is shot looking north west from one of the tower blocks on the south east side of the junction. It's interesting to see the old houses in the corner between St. Ann's and Seven Sisters, redeveloped shortly after this photo as Kerswell Close and Victoria Crescent. To their west the old Vioctoria pub is still standing.

My grandparents used to live in Plevna Crescent (just out of shot to the right of the bridge). that was flattened for redevelopment in the early 1970s. I don't recall that open space in this picture, the south side of St Anne's Road used to have shops and houses on. I guess they had already been demolished by then.

Tina, what was name of your grandparents ?   I know of a Stephens family lived there 40s/50s time.

Apparently I was taken to nursery school there in early 50s.

My grandparents were Middleton they lived at No 93 from end of the war (possibly a bit earlier, they had been bombed out twice) until 1973/4. Mrs French lived next door but I don't know which number (95 I think - left hand side as you look at the front). There was a sweetshop/tobacconists on the corner with St Anne's Road I think. I don't recall anybody names Stevens.

Hello again Tina.  I've been doing a bit more digging.   My Stevens family lived at No 99 till about 1953. (May also have been known as Hoad ?)    Mrs French, it turns out, was a very good friend of Mrs Stevens and she did attend the wedding of a son John Stevens.
