Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Rare survivor on the Harringay Ladder
Most of the original cast iron gates throughout London have long gone. I believe a number were sacrificed to the war effort during WWII.
So it's a pleasure to see this on the Ladder.

Just like the dodgy iron railing snatchers and aluminium collander scavengers Lord Beaverbrook sent around to convince us all we were contributing to the "war effort". How many tanks or Spitfires were ever recycled from that useless scrap? (yes, I suppose WW2 was a useless scrap too.)

Yup, my understanding is that despite the wholesale destruction of the country's architectural ironware, the metal was actually of little use.

...and so nice to see the paving and front door intact too. The ladder roads must have looked amazing when all of the houses were first decked out in their finery.
