Mark, is this still here?
Not sure who Mark is, but yes the school is still here.
Anyone know of a Valerie Russell, Colin Phillips, Gary Thompson who attended SH in 50s / 60s time please ?
Is this Frobisher Road school?
No, that's North Harringay School. This is the school between Mattison and Pemberton.
We used to walk, crocodile fashion down the alleyway to the school form North Harringay for swimming in their 25 yard pool. The boy and girl dressing rooms were interconnected; I shall draw a veil over what went on.... Oddly, in my days (40s-60s) it was most usually referred to as Mattison Road School - which was wrong but common parlance.
Doesn't look much different from when I went there from1953 to 1961. Although I do not remember that side door. This side to the left out of shot was the infants school. In the junior school playground there were bomb shelters.
After multiple evacuations, and then moving from The City to north London because of the heavy bombing and for safety reasons, my mum attended South Harringay, around about 1941-1943. Interesting to see how it looked in “her time.”
I too remember the walk through the alleys from North Harringay to ‘Mattison Road’ swimming pool and back - my sojourn there would have encompass the mid 1960s. Happy, carefree days.
