Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Liz posted a great photo of Disney’s circa 1950 yesterday.

Looking at it, I noticed the clock and wasn't 100% sure if it was still there. So, I checked a photo I took a year or so ago and whilst you can see the brackets for the clock are still there, no clock. When did it disappear? Where is it now? I wonder.

There's already a stopped clocks campaign, how about a lost clocks one? (No, not seriously).

I also noticed a couple of other things whilst comparing the two photos. Firstly, notice how the moulding strip above the windows has disappeared. Second, what's that plastered white strip in the new photo? It goes right up the front of the building. I'm pretty sure it would have been windows & bricks. Did the old sign end up damaging the brickwork etc?

BTW, yesterday, I commented that the building next door was a bank. I’d forgotten that it remained a bank till just before Better came along – the reason they could open a betting shop without the need for a change of use planning application. Interesting to think that, in a way, the bank in Liz’s photo spawned Better.

No, the sign didn't end damaging the brickwork - in actual fact it has preserved the moulding. The rest seems to have weathered away..

Something that bothers me are the amount of cables and wires that seem to be on all the buildings.. Is this allowed? I'm sure some sort of 'Status' for Grand Parade could put a stop to so much defacing.. couldn't it?

The double glazing fairy has not visited either. Not too bad at all considering the rest of the buildings.
