The Snooker Club used to have the name Saloon Balle (or something similiar). In the 1950's they had functions there, we lived opposite, and one evening there was a knock on the door and a lady all dressed in her finery asked if she could look at our television as her daughter was going to be on Sunday Night at the London Palladium. The daughter was Alma Cogan. We only had BBC at the time and the show was on ITV so our neighbour who lived upstairs took her up to her flat and they watched the show.
