The Hornsey Air Swimming Pool was opened on the 1st June 1929 on Park Road, Crouch End. The pool is still in service today.
I'm guessing that the probably well-to-do ladies in the photo are pulling a stunt about caring for the pool environment for a press photo. Either that or Hornsey Council had a most unusual team of pool caretakers!
In the background are the backs of the houses on the north side of Glasslyn Road.

The pool slide top left of picture looks fun! Just a straight slope, uniform steepness all the way into the pool!
They don't make 'em like they used to.
Cant say I ever saw anything like this before, but many great memories of this great establishment in the 60's. Early spring would see us down there on a nice day but the water was freezing. Why did we all carry our wet trunks rolled in a wet towel under our arm all the way home. We all seemed to do it and we all had a soggy armpit afterwards.
