Fascinating detail, Hugh.  I didn't realise the Coliseum went back as far as 1905.

Thanks for picking that up. Actually it doesn't go back quite as far as 1905. It's just a date that became my default for mid-Edwardian and I added it without thinking. The Coliseum was in fact opened in 1913 (and I've now changed the date in the title to reflect that). Some years back I wrote about the history of the cinema and Harringay's other three cinemas in an article on Wikipedia.

I enjoyed the Wiki article, Hugh.  Thanks for the link.  The stage at the Ritz was used for talent shows on Saturday afternoons in the 40s and 50s.  I remember my sister winning one for singing or dancing, or both
