Btw, am I missing something regards the 'Majorca' in the title?

I really like this series of photos Les; the scooters, the sixties, local area, B&W. Any more similar gratefully received!

This one looks like a poster for a film -- great stuff... I notice you were a 'light mod' too... any stories about Clacton Easter 1964 (I was there) and Margate or Tottenham Royal..??

Hi Stephen The good old Royal eh ! Every monday and Thursday ,hundreds of scooters outside ,magic times .And what about the bank holiday weekends in Clacton ,Margate ,Brighton ect There were about 10 of us scooter boys from Harringay and we would team up with other guys from Manor House ect and then there would be about 30 of us on scooters going together to the coast . Still Laugh about the good times we had ,it really was good fun .No crash helmets in those days .

I notice nearly all the vehicles in these photos have local 'Middlesex' registrations TMY MM and MDon another photo.. Don't forget, this was still the County of Middlesex at that time.

Hi Stephen:
Yes we were all there Clacton, Margate & Brighton on those bank holiday weekends. Like you say magical times. Remember you had to have your parker jacket to go with the scooter. You were either a Mod or a Rocker in those days. So your in Germany now. Les is in London and I'm in Los Angeles. I hope other people from Harringay find this site and can connect with old friends. Anyone know the whereabouts of Jimmy Taylor or his friend George the Greek. George was last known to be in Melborne Australia back in 1970?

I was too young to have a scooter myself.. but it was on my list of wants.. I eventually got wound up in the later development of 'mod culture', when it moved on to suedehead and then to skinhead.. and our music diversified from Motown into Ska and then later Reggae...

My brother and sister are older than I am, so I was very aware of what was going on- and I went with them to Clacton at Easter 1964.
Tottenham Royal really was 'The Place' to be seen, especially if you aspired to have some 'Street Cred'. It's not easy to find photos of it at that time but this one from 1962 gives an idea. It was, I think taken when Spurs won the double in 1962.
Yes, I'm in Germany, but I've been to L.A. many times from 1980 onwards and I was in Melbourne in 1997 - so I feel like a link between us..

And look at how wide the cars are. You could easily park them one either side and still have room for a two way street.

People forget what they lost when all these cars came and infected their lives.

Sorry Stephen, but the nerd inside me must correct the fact that Spurs won the double in '61. They won the FA Cup in '62, but finished 3rd in the league. The Gooner in me won't allow for any "extra" credit for them! :)

Nerdy football facts aside though, this a great evocative photo.
