OK, you've left the date on the photo so we don't have to geek out over the cars and I suspect that's Duckett's common in the foreground but... there was a cinema there?

There certainly was John. Family-run business. had a reputation as a fleapit But I went a couple of times and emerged unscathed. Perfectly acceptable cinema and MUCH cheaper than the West End.
I would guess it closed about 7 years ago ?

Yes, that's Ducketts Common aka Dirty Park.
You say, "there was a cinema there?" There isn't now!?! I've been away too long. What's there instead?
I guess the multiplex in the shopping centre up the road finally did for it.
I shall have a look on Street Level maps when I've a free moment and see what's there now.

I used to go to this cinema it was the ABC Turnpike Lane. Tanner rush on Saturday morning. They had a sing song as well which was a bit naff but everyone joined in. Monitors sat on the ends of the rows of seats and when you left you had to wait for the monitor to raise their paddle with the row number on it. Can't imagine anything like that now. It was brilliant then though.

If memory serves me correctly weren't there three cinemas in Wood Green, one opposite Wood Green station, one by Turnpike Lane station and one at the south end of Ducketts Common, plus another on West Green opposite Abbotsford Avenue? 

Can't remember their names, but the West Green one we called the flea pit. Saturday morning pictures cost 6d.
