Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Two ads for local organ builders Rest Cartwright from c1905 and c1912.

By c1912, the location of the address has changed from West Green to Harringay. The Primitive Methodist Church was located in the (now unused) Catholic church in Mattison Road

The two exhibitions mentioned were held at White City: 1910 Japan-British Exhibition and 1911 Coronation Exhibition in honour of George V.

Is this the organ mentioned as being installed in 1904 for the Primitive Methodists?

It always sounded older and wheezier than 1904 - but maybe that was our organist!

This is almost certainly a Rest Cartwright instrument.  I have a record of all known organs built by the firm, which includes a number for churches of different denominations in the locality AND a Cinema in Green Lanes!  Lots of other material and information on Rest Cartwright if anyone is interested.  For a short period during the early 1960s I worked for Rest Cartwright & Son and obtained most of the surviving Company records upon the firm's demise c1965.

I only stumbled upon the Harringay Community online site yesterday, and have already found so much of interest.  Wonderful!  Thank you very much.  I can be contacted by email: richard.hadingham@googlemail.com

Would the cinema organ be this one per chance?

And, what about this one? Is it Rest Cartwright?

Thats the one!

I doubt whether the St. Paul's organ was a Rest Cartwright but will consult the records.
