Rest Cartwright

Who was Rest, of Rest (,) Cartwright & Son of Harringay? Nobody; he was Cartwright's Christian name, short for Rest-in-the-Lord in the family's puritan Baptist tradition. The comma after 'Rest' is a common mistake. The son was Geoffrey Booth Cartwright. For something like a quarter of a century Rest Cartwright was organist of the Baptist Union, and here he can be seen ascending the steps to the organ console in Camden Road Baptist Church where he also served as organist for many years.
