The original frontage was really rather handsome before it was mangled by the failed Northern Heights project.

I agree. If you use the tag under the photo, you'll see a few photos of Station Place. But this is the first one where I noticed the gothic arches on the station frontage. I also saw the mock Tudor cinema frontage in the background which I hadn't seen before.

Indeed - I wonder whether that's still there under the plaster!

I hadn't thought to consider that. But I think you may have a point. Judging by the wood above the window, it looks like much of the mock-Tudor could still be there.
