This carnival is mentioned in Lloyds Weekly Paper for May 20th 1900

The people of Harringay also offered their financial support during the Boer War to the Lord Mayor's War Fund. According to The Times of Dec 06 1899, St Paul's Harringay donated £19 13s and 6d (although it would seem the Baptists of Peckham were a little more generous managing a hearty £35)

Any contribution from those Primitive Methodists of Mattison Road (later St Augustine's) ?

Funny, at home in South Armagh our local village was divided with one or two of our emigrants fighting on each side, Boers v Brits. Even two generations later one local family were still known by the nickname, ' the Boer Conlons' giving rise to shouts of 'Come on the Boer!' from local sideline fans. As kids we thought it was 'the Boar Conlon', commemorating sexual rather than military prowess!
