Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hornsey High Street 1937 (Courtesy of Phillip Alexander Estate Agents)

What a great picture! Many thanks to Phillip Alexander for the original scans (edited into a single image by us). The original picture was made up of four shots stuck on card. The joins are visible. To view larger size, click "View Full SIze" below.

Here's the same stretch today on Google Street View.

Don't you just hate it when one retailer dominates the high street?

At 20 megs the full picture is too big to upload, but in it you can see the range of stuff they sold. In the left hand two windows it's home furnishings. There are then two windows of cars - Austin, Morris, Riley and Standard. (There's a used bargain of the week at just £69!). You then have J Keith's clothes shop - obviously throwing in the towel and has sold up the Ellis & Co. The next window is home electrics, mainly radios, and last of all there's a window with prams and bicycles.
