That building and the way it has been photographed --as a sort of cross between a lunatic asylum and a factory--  says it all about the late 19th century attitude to children's education, doesn't it?

WOW! Where did you did you find that photo Hugh?

The most noticeable differences between now and then to the building itself is the chimneys and the wall in the playground. Also, the arched bit is now filled in. Other than that, it has barely changed.

The perimeter wall on Frobisher Rd has also very obviously gone.

Hugh - do you remember I once posted on HOL a school project about all the people who lived on Falkland Road (as recorded in the 1901 census). Is it still on the site somewhere? I tried looking, but wasn't sure where it might be...

It's still there. I read through it a few weeks ago. It came up when I searched under Falkland.
