Hi Stephen, nothing to do with Harringay I just love prefabs. This was mine in 1966, a different type to yours.

There is something a bit odd about the 1990s prefab..

It only has one wall panel between bathroom and toilet windows which makes it look not quite right.   Whereas 'our' 1958 prefab has two panels..

Stephen Bin - was your prefab next to the Ever Ready? I remember a family who lived in a pre-fab - triplets: Pauline, Kelvin and Keith. I used to okay on the street with them. Their Dad was a policeman. One if the boys died in 1960 age nine (I think he had leukaemia) and I remember his funeral passing my house and seeing the tiny white coffin. I was five.

I also gas a friend at no. 13: Linda Apadoo. Numbers 1-11 were destroyed when the doodlebug landed on the Ever Ready, also blowing the fronts off numbers 2-18.

Hey Christine, No our prefab was next to the railway at the other end of Warwick. Yes, I do remember Kelvin and Keith, I used to play out with them and recall that their dad was a policeman and can remember his police car being parked outside. They were a couple of years older than me. I was six in 1960.  I remember how sad it was when Keith (I think) died. Their prefab laid back a bit, I think there were three prefabs on that site. But a couple of houses had survived the V1 attack and stood between the prefabs and Ever-Ready. They have since been demolished, I imagine at the same time as Ever-ready itself.   When their prefab was demolished they moved to the newly built  'Police flats' on South Grove and I lost touch with Kelvin. Do you perhaps remember Valerie Paveling who lived opposite? Her dad worked at the BBC.

Hello Stephen, how nice to hear from you.
My Dad's aunt and uncle lived at no.8 when the fronts were blown off. They were evacuated to Leicester for a year while the fronts were rebuilt on numbers 2-8. Mum and Dad lived there from 1950 and bought the house in 1961. When I was a child there were only 3 prefabs were numbers 1-11 once stood. There were also prefabs at the end of Roseberry Gardens and yours opposite Stanhope Gardens. Flats were built on the three sites in 1962. The new annexe to the EverReady on St Ann's Road was built in 1963. The whole EverReady site was pulled down in the 80s for housing.
Valerie and her brother Kenny lived at number 22, next door to the family who (I think) owned a scrap yard, there were two boys who were very fat. Valerie was a year or two older than me, and she was the first person I ever heard using the ''f' word. I went home and was telling Mum that I had been playing with my ball and it had gone in the f-ing road! A ferocious telling-off followed and I was told I couldn't play with her anymore. They moved in the early sixties and I have often thought about her and Kenny. I had a crush on him!
I left no 8 in 1976 when Mum and Dad sold up and moved to Hertford. I had an immensely happy childhood on Warwick Gardens.

Christine, since you wrote that, Valerie Paveling has been active on HOL. You'll probably find her in the members list.

I only remember good times as a kid on Warwick gardens.. It was ALWAYS summer and we played outside. Do you perhaps remember Kenny Blackaller too? He was my good mate. And Chris Anderson at no.60 and George Neofeytou at no.64.. I wonder what happened to them?

I’ve only just seen your 2017 comment about Warwick Gardens. I didn’t know Chris Anderson or George Neofeytou, they may have been older than me and I wasn’t allowed to play further up the road.

I do remember that there were no houses on the pre-fab site as numbers 1-11 were destroyed in the bombing next to the Ever Ready. The new extension to the Ever Ready was built in 1963. My friend Paul Saar lived just round the corner at 313 St Ann’s Road and his Mum still lives there after 67 years. She has certainly noticed the changes to the area.
