Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Men, women and children queue for potatoes outside 'J Wood' the greengrocer at 97-99 High Road, Wood Green, London. The display in the foreground contains broad beans. A sign in the background states that new potatoes cost 3 1/2d per lb.

Wood's closed in the 1960s, and the premises were demolished - creating a noticeable gap in the Victorian terrace-and rebuilt as Wood Green's first supermarket- "MacFisheries". Later it became a branch of Tesco, and is now McDonalds. McD's have since expanded sideways into the former "Jolly" premises seen in another photo.
