Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Housewives queue outside baker and confectioner 'Williamson's' on High Road, Wood Green. The original caption states that "there is plenty of bread in the shop, but the housewives are queuing for cake. You must have something for tea when the old man comes home from work and the cakes are snapped up directly they are put in the window".

As a point of interest it was BU's that were the last rationing coupons to be taken off the rationing of food.

It seems that many of the shopfronts in this series have part of their windows blanked out. I wonder if this is due to war-time custom of taping over the windows as protection against flying glass?
