Albums: Historical Images of Turnpike Lane
Richard Woods, yes Broomfield Park as my Grandparents lived in Belmont Avenue. Many happy hours spent sailing various boats including the Jetex on the boating lake. Also loved the little museum they had there, as a kid I found it fascinating! We lived at 5, Coleraine Road, just up from the alley that was the service road for the shops on Wood Green high street. One shop was a “tripe shop” and I well remember the horrible smell and flies during the summer! I was 5 years of age when we moved to Coleraine Road, went to North Harringay School and we moved 10 years later - many happy memories of growing up in the area. Sadly lost contact with all my friends except one who now lives in Adelaide Australia - hardly visiting distance 🤣.
The museum at Broomfield was a shared joy. I nearly lost my fear of bees watching them going in an out of the window hive! I loved the variety of those lakes - from paddling and boating to serious wildlife retreats. I delivered evening papers in Coleraine Road - who knows, may have been your house! Between 52 and 57 I would guess.
Richard Woods, we lived at no5 which is now 5a b, we sold the house in around 1962 to the Burt Family. I also have a b&w photograph of Coleraine Road with about 4 cars parked. Somewhat different from the road I saw when I visited about 8 years ago!
Have you seen the state of Frobisher! I lived at 86. Until 1950 there were no cars in the road but some motorcycle combos. Then a few and car and ours from 54. And my father rejected our house for £400 in 1949! Sold a while back for £780,000!
I remember when this post office was run by a man called Tony and a woman called Doris. Very early 1970s, I am not sure if they were a couple.
