In June 1949, British theatrical impressario, Harold Fielding, brought the Philadelphia Orchestra over to the UK as part of a European Tour.
Hyped as the first visit to the UK of an American orchestra since 1929, their tour included a two week stay at Harringay Arena.

Just a note in passing. I have a 45rpm record of this orchestra playing Ravel's Bolero. Of course it was
bought at the "Harringay Record Shop" near Disney's. Anyone remember this shop and the woman who ran the shop?
