The block on the horizon on the right of the first photo - is that Centrepoint being built? The dates would correspond.

The above enlargement shows that area more clearly. St Paul's can bee seen on the left, and the large building just beyond the chimney pots is The Astoria/Rainbow/UCKG Help Centre at Finsbury Park. That building is due sound of the camera, so we are looking wets of south. The amount of haze suggests that the large block on the right is closer than St Pauls, much closer than Centre Point. Normally the PO Tower (BT Tower), at a distance similar to  Centre Point, would have been visible towards the right, but is obscured by haze in this photo. I reckon the large structure is somewhere in the Tufnell Park / Kentish Town area - maybe a 1960s concrete block of flats under construction.

Apologies for typing errors: ... due SOUTH ... WEST of south

Thanks John, yes the enlargement looks like the building is more in the foreground than on the horizon. I wondered if it could be the Harvist Estate at the bottom of Hornsey Rd, but that was 1967 according to this interesting article http://www.locallocalhistory.co.uk/municipal-housing/harvist/index.htm

I'm pretty sure the photos were taken in 1965, that being based on other pictures taken on the same roll of film, but it's always possible my memory is at fault.

You can tell it's an older picture because so many of the window frames are painted in darker colours. I don't know quite when it became standard to paint them white, but it's always the thing that stands out.
