Albums: Historical Images of Harringay After 1918 | 3 of 3
No idea about this occasion but the image brings back memories. I passed that shop at least twice a day back and forth to Woodlands and South Grove Schools, between 1956 -64. After leaving school I worked a while at Oceana Laundry, '65? and later an engineering works in Hermitage/Vale Road, '68-'72. Had a couple of friends living down Brampton Road and others along St Ann's. And Woodlands Park was more or less our 'local', living in Harringay Road. Happy memories.
It was the annual Tottenham Carnival which started and ended at Lordship Rec. 1964 was the last 'real' TBC carnival. I think there were a couple more in the Haringey era, but they soon died out.
Thanks, Stephen.
The carnival around the Borough started at Lordship Rec, then via Westbury Avenue, Green Lanes, Harringay Arena, Green Lanes, St Ann’s Road, Seven Sisters Rd, High Road, Tottenham Town Hall, Bruce Grove, Lordship Lane. There were celebrations in the park which always ended with fireworks. The Carnival was supported financially by Tottenham's Industry and Traders, as well as by the Crusha Family. Owners of the Tottenham & Edmonton Weekly Herald.
