These 1905 images are specially interesting as this is just at the moment of the actual dawn of the motor car. Interesting how wide the street looks. I am not sure I ever knew there were trams in Hornsey High Street either.

If I'm not mistaken the parade of shops stood between the old St Mary's junior school, which along with the school all were demolished to make way for the new St David's & St Katherine Academy.

As Eugene says above, the section in the b&w photo above top, were nearer the horse trough and fountain rhan in this view, but had the same design as in GE colour pic above.

Indeed, you are both right. I hadn't realised that a terrace of shops has been demolished there during the seventies redevelopment. But as the pre-wasr map below shows, it was. The 'PH' is, of course the Three Compasses. The shops in the original photo are those numbered 68-76 on the old map.
