Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

This picture the start of the curve of the river as it swept around Harringay House. In the mid-distance is the bridge over the newly built Wightman Road. Beyond it is the old embankment of the Great Northern railway when it was just a two track line.

You can see from this map that it was directly due north of where Seymour and Hewitt Roads are, but is now built over by the much-expanded railway line.

This sketch shows a similar view, from the other direction.

This contemporary photo shows roughly the same spot, showing the same bridge over the river, with Ally Pally in the background.

Albums: Old Harringay, before 1885

Comment by Hugh on January 5, 2017 at 1:32: A similar view from the top of the little hill, beyond the small building, circa 1880, painted by Harold H Lawes. This was painted prior to the widening of the GNR. I suspect that had been done by the time the 1888 picture was drawn.

Believe it or not this bridge/viaduct still exists, buried under the existing railway.
