Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Meakers Clothing Store 14 High Road Wood Green, c1960

On the corner of Whymark Avenue, this shop was a branch of a widespread clothing store that ceased trading in 1978.

Below is a 1960s coat from the company.

I remember this store very well. It was THE place to go for made to measure suits. I remember my blue green two tone tonic mohair suit. It was cool.

First 'JET' petrol station opened in Whymark Avenue in 1961.   Very cheap at around 4bob a gallon.

For a good suit in Wood Green, I always used Toby Norman on Jolly Butchers Hill.

Here's a snippet from the 1955 OS map, John. I guess the JET must have been where this map shows 'Garage'?

Wow I posses and cherish the very same coat. It belonged to my late and very stylish father. Thanks for this post.
