Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Thanks to ex-Harringaeite Roy Smith for this photo. Woodberry Down is a wee bit outside our borders, but pretty nearby. So I thought I'd add the phot so kindly contributed by Roy.

Thanks Hugh and Roy.  Great photo!.  You wouldn't believe there were so many War babies.

Another observation.  How lean we look compared with today's kids!  By current standards we were thin but we war babies were tough survivors too.

Yes, Geraldine, if that outside stairway still exists I'd guess they might squeeze five onto each step, rather than the eight girls and boys of 1951. Those unisex sandals look familiar - though in summer and early autumn we went to school barefoot in the 1940s & early'50s. That was rural Ireland, though.

Gosh, OAE, barefoot kids are something I have only read about.  Makes me realise how fortunate we were.  As for those sandals, the leather was quite soft and it was easy to cut across the width of the toe part to accommodate growing feet.
