This image shows the old library (with the green dome) not long before it was demolished.
Thanks to Derek Reynolds for the image and for his permission to publish it.
Just beyond the library is Caroba House, the old Cakebread and Robey building. It was demolished as part of the Wood Green town centre redevelopment of the early seventies and replaced by part of River Park House.
The light coloured building past that is Ashley House that replaced the Edwardian Three Jolly Butchers building.
Beyond that is Greenridings House, constructed after the Printers's Almshouses were demolished in 1968.
On the right of the picture, Spouters Corner still retained much of its late Victorian form. (Picture of Spouters in 1981 here and see Image 6 here showing the old Victorian Terrace in c1960).

I remember as a child going to the Wimpy bar on the left near to Woodwards electrical shop, this was before Mcdonalds and Burger King arrived on the scene.
River park house - what an oppressive blot on the landscape. All in the name of progress. 'They' want to do similar on the corner in Seven Sisters with Wards Corner.
Shame on them.
