Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The sales agent for Berkely Homes at the Woodberry Down development told me this morning that this block of flats at Woodberry Down was used as the set for a few scenes of Schindler's List. Can anyone confirm?

“The first tenders were accepted in July 1946 and the first residents moved in just two years later.  The earliest completed homes were the eight-storey Nicholl, Needwood, Ashdale and Burtonwood blocks, considered innovative for their use of lifts and reinforced concrete (from recycled air raid shelters).”

“The rebuilding of a housing estate in North London, so distressed that some of the buildings were used to depict the Warsaw ghettos in the 1993 film Schindler’s List….”

According to this page it was used as filming location for the film Schindler’s List.

Here it states Nicholl House,

My personal memories:

I can remember when these very ‘modern’ looking blocks were being built - there were mountains of crushed brick that were piled around the area. We used bits of corrugated iron sheet to ‘sledge’ down them. Many grazed knees and elbows resulted.

When they were built, my best friend Mickey and his mum moved into one of the flats, in Nicholl House. They were considered the very best blocks of flats, with a lift. The view from the top floor was wonderful. Sometime later Mickey and his mum moved to Ipoh, Malaya where his dad was employed in the oil industry. Apart from photos of a bungalow and a pet parrot I didn’t hear from Mickey again.
