Interesting shot of the tunnel entrance in Holborn Kingsway. As a child I can remember looking down the slope from the roadway - the tunnel was sealed off with large gates but you could see into it and it always intrigued me as to what it was until I was told about the trams using it years before. Now used as an underpass for traffic to Waterloo I believe.
The lovely 33 tram was part of my childhood and rode the tram into the tunnel several times - much like a scary fairground ride!
Now part of it is used for the underpass but the entrance here is still unused, sometimes as an art gallery.
As a memory of my childhood I was fascinated by it. Closed for many years it was the very peculiar HQ of the used as a flood control headquarters for the Greater London Council. Rather odd, that it’s underground and housed in pre-fabs in the tunnel. Some years ago as a member of Sub Brit I was able to look down there!
