Strange how things happen but at school I had a friend who lived in Burgoyne Road. We visited each others home. But it was not until one day on HoL that I saw an address with looked familiar so I went on Google to have a look. Sure enough it was Davids's home - and for the first time I discovered he had the New River beside his garden! He never mentioned it and I never noticed!
Was it one of these two, Richard?
I am not sure but when I Googled the site I found this house and its has a basement. It is possible that my friend's family lived in a basement flat and that may be why the river never impacted on me - it wasn't their garden! But memory at this distance is a strange thing. For sure if it had been one of the others I could hardly miss it so either I am dreaming or... heigh ho!
Like Richard I grew up, played and rode my bike exploring the ladder but it was only recently ,through Hol, that I discovered the existence the " New River". I wonder if my Parents kept it quiet so as not to tempt me exploring it. If so they did the right thing because I almost certainly would have. Strange.
In those days, I’m sure kids had great fun dodging the New River walksmen.
With dog I am startled to note!
Richard, re the dog and the fates boys suffered from it, read the comments below that photo.
