This old fashioned store at 1 Turnpike Lane, lasted until the nineties, or perhaps later. Previously it had been the Express Dairy.

I remember this dairy. The 41 bus used to stop opposite. I am sure I remember (Probably it was in the late forties) there used to be a milk churn standing outside with a scoop/ ladle hanging from its rim, which was used to fill your own container.
So many of the dairies were owned by London Welsh people. My grandparents had Old Lambeth Dairy in th 1930s - 40s. One of their milk carts has ended up in a museum in Chicago. My great aunt sold milk from a cart in Leicester Square. Every time we drove past a London dairy, my Dad would know the owners if they were also Welsh. I’m sure he would have known the people at Turnpike Dairy in the 1960s
