Great photo. I heard someone on the radio a few days talking about their family's involvement with pottery over the decades, and she mentioned that the word pothole derives from potters sneaking out to dig up clay patches exposed on the road. From a quick look I can't see much online to support this but I liked it as a theory. So Green Lanes' potholes perhaps are part of our heritage ...

Great stuff - as an enthusiastic but unskilled collector of pots of all sorts I am humbled to find that  until now I did not know I had lived so close to a one!
