Is that the underground station on the right covered in scaffolding ?

Gawd, I'd forgotten about that Tudor building. There was a Chinese restaurant there called, I think, the Bamboo Jungle. We often met a fella in there called Fred. His brother was Arthur C Clarke.

Tony, Yes I too assumed that it was the station behind the scaffolding.

It looks like the image was taken after the old library was demolished in 1973 but before construction had started on River Park House. It would have stood just next to the red brick wall facing the camera.

Madeline. Thanks for the memory of the Bamboo Jungle. The 1970 phone book has the following. Could this be the one you're thinking of? That would have been about half-way along the now demolished terrace on the right of the picture.

I remember going with my grandfather to an old second hand furniture shop in those mock-Tudor shops in the early 1970’s, he bought a splendid large cupboard, it looked like it was made of mahogany. We used to live in Lawton Road near the Barrat chocolate factory, I still remember the smell of liquorice in the air when we used to go Alexandra School in the morning.
