I worked in Acton Hospital, one of the last London cottage hospitals, back in the 1970s. It had everything: operating theatre, physio/rehab department, out-patient clinics, admin offices, etc. all in miniature. It was served by visiting big-gun consultants from district hospitals. Worked perfectly but the NHS had other ideas.
About 45 years after this photo I had my tonsils out, probably in that theatre although I trust it had developed a bit....
You had hi-tech treatment compared with my mum, who had hers out on the kitchen table in India.
But then now we know it wasn't necessary anyway!
had my tonsils out there back in the 1940 s
My op about 1948/9 so maybe...?
think mine was around that time
Dread to think of going under the knife back then ! But then again considerably better than "on a kitchen table in India" eh Geraldine !
