This image shows the sea cadets on Hornsey High Street during a Hornsey Carnival in the mid-fifties. The interest for me is in the buildings. On the right is the instantly recognisable early 20th century New River Engine House which is still standing. On the left is a building I hadn't seen before. It looks like a light industrial building from the 1930s. This was have been part of the small light industrial area which ran from behind this building to where Sainsbury's is today.
This thirties works building was replaced with Windsor Court, the faux-Georgian apartment building that is standing today. Planning records suggest that building was erected in 2006.

I've lived nearby for some years but never realized the Georgian was faux!
Oh, oui tres faux. But the two huses next door are original. The four storey Eagle Court (next to the pub) is early/mid 19th. Next to it, the tiny two storey Eagle Cottage is early 18th, Then between Faux Court and the Eagles is what I think is another early/mid 19th century house.
I think one of those light industrial units made church organs or somewhere there did I think. Beard Bros maybe.?
