I'm guessing this picture was taken from the Tottenham Lane end looking towards Finsbury Park. Funny but that hill doesn't look as steep here as it was when I used to try and ride my raleigh chopper bike up it in the 1970's.
I think its from the stapleton hall rd end. I dont remember the shops going that far up the street from the corner of tott lane ferme park juntion.
It might be the island in the road throwing you. think staplton hall rd running right to left and you'll see what i mean. Londis on the left.
Yes, I think you're spot on there. It's the opposite end to what I was thinking. Boy was that hill difficult to ride a bike up but fun coming down.
Takes me right back to my childhood and William's Brothers, the chemist by the bridge, the police box too, Johnson's the newsagent, the 233 bus, Elias , J Lalko watch repairer, etc sweet shop under the bridge, WB 'divi' chemist and films developed, later minicab office etc
and I remember too , the air raid warning siren on the railway embankment was tested from time to time.
and Father Jarrett in his regalia waiting for parishioners to Holy Trinity church just along Stapleton Hall Road on the right.and the 'little' lady who served in the chemist.
