An old post card showing the parish church in Stapleton Hall Road as it was in the 1920s, I think. The war memorial, blown down in the great storm of 1987, seems to have been designed by Sir Ninian Comper.

Thank you, Alexander. I've let the group know.
I just about remember this before demolition. I went there for Sunday School. It had photos or pictures all along the right hand side of Jesus's walk carrying the cross to his death. I remember the smell of incense from the shiny brass 'thing', but we were transfered to the hall to left hand side rear down an alleyway and they built a wavey veranda? to the front as well as demolishing actual church. I remember Father Jarret in his uniform hat of the time. I remember William's Bro's and Elias shoerepairers and sign pointing up 100yds to Holy Trinity. I remember the Queen arriving in a numberplate-less deep red RR to open St Aidens school nearby. Thanks to Alexander for digging it out and of course you Hugh etc
But I remember most the green space that replaced the church, and that cross left 'high and dry; behind the curved wall.
I also remember the prefabs -up the hill- left from the war where the bombs did hit and caused the church to be unsafe.
